A South Auckland woman has been charged with assault after a five-month-old baby was allegedly punched in the head.
Police say they were called to a Mangere home on Wednesday night following reports that a baby had been assaulted.
An ambulance was called but police say the baby was not seriously injured.
A 28-year-old woman was due to appear in court on Thursday charged with assaulting a child.
The infant is now in the care of Child Youth and Family.
