3:28 pm on 12 April 2009

A woman was assaulted during a robbery at a Shell petrol station in Ngaruawahia on Saturday night.

Police say two men threatened the female store attendant with a large knife before making off with tobacco and the contents of the store's cash register.

Detective Raymond Sunkel of the Huntly CIB says the offenders entered the store shortly before 9.30pm and struck the woman with some sort of baton before robbing the store.

Mr Sunkel says the victim was severely shaken by the ordeal and taken to Waikato Hospital for a check-up.

The offenders are described as Maori men in their late teens or early twenties.
