St John Ambulance is praising a "super-human effort" by the workmates of a Nelson man who was rescued from a crusher at a quarry in the Pig Valley late this afternoon.
It is still unclear how the 53-year-old from Wakefield became trapped up to his neck in fist-sized rocks at about 4pm on Monday.
A St John spokesperson says the victim raised the alarm to his workmates, who freed him by moving rocks and hauling him from the hopper.
