Divisions over Mayor's support for super city

9:50 am on 21 April 2009

Divisions are surfacing in the Auckland City Council over Mayor John Banks' consistent public support for the Government's super city plans.

Mr Banks has said the plan only needs small adjustments but a minority faction, City Vision, wants the council to express greater concern about it.

Councillor Glenda Fryer claims Mr Banks is not representing the views of the people.

The council will debate the issue on Thursday.

Mr Banks says there is only one view for Auckland City and that is the view of the majority.

He says the best way for the opposition to express its views is through the select committee process.
