Tauranga Hospital says it's comfortable with its security arrangements, in the wake of an armed offenders squad callout to its mental health unit on Monday afternoon.
A man, 36, is due to appear in the Tauranga District Court on Tuesday accused of pulling a loaded gun on a doctor. He gave himself up after negotiations.
Hospital staff were evacuated and five streets cordoned off.
The man has been remanded in custody for psychiatric assessment.
