Climbing wall closed after fatal fall

The operator of a Greymouth climbing wall says it is devastated an elderly woman has died as a result of injuries suffered when she fell off the wall.

Gina Bossleman, 74, was climbing the wall with her husband holding the support ropes and fell seven metres.

She suffered pelvic injuries during the fall in early April. She was taken to Christchurch hospital and died three weeks later.

Tai Poutini Polytechnic, which operates the wall, says it is devastated by the death, and is taking the incident very seriously.

It has closed the wall to the public and says it is fully co-operating with the Department of Labour while it investigates.

The department says a report into the incident will be referred to the Coroner.
