Armed police were called to a house in Lower Hutt on Tuesday following a domestic incident at an address in Naenae Road.
Police say a threat was made by one partner to another, and that person has access to firearms.
Police say the incident has been resolved, and no arrests have been made, though they are are continuing their inquiries.
Cordons surrounding Naenae Road have been lifted.
