Reminder to drivers after death of Matamata student

6:41 am on 17 May 2009

Drivers are being reminded to go no faster than 20km per hour when passing school buses that are dropping off students.

A 12-year-old Matamata schoolboy was killed when he got off a bus just outside the town about 3.45pm on Friday.

Police say it appears the Matamata Intermediate School pupil strayed into the path of an oncoming car.

His death is being investigated by the Waikato Serious Crash Unit and his name is due to be released on Monday.

Police say the Ministry of Education is arranging counselling for the students who were on the bus.
