Positive results from drink driving blitz

Police in Auckland have tested almost 10,000 drivers in a drink driving blitz over the weekend, with 52 found to be over the limit.

The operation involved 16 alcohol checkpoints and tested 9,268 people across the North Shore on Friday and Saturday nights.

Police say there has been a reduction in the number of intoxicated drivers, compared with a similar operation on the North Shore earlier this year.

They say there has also been a reduction in the number of intoxicated drivers under the age of 20, with only three found over the limit.

Senior Sergeant Shanan Gray says intoxicated rivers risk not only their own lives, but the lives of innocent road users.
