Pilot art and cooking classes for migrants to be doubled

A pilot programme to create bonds between new immigrants and Auckland people is being doubled in size.

The project aimed to bring together about 12 people, half New Zealand-born and half Chinese immigrants, with activities such as art and cooking classes.

After promoting the project for two weeks, Auckland City Council says 25 people will now take part.

Community services manager Nandita Mathur says the project fills a gap in the community, as many new immigrants have problems facing the unknown and integrating into society.

She says the programme will run for seven weeks.
