The Serious Crash Unit is investigating an incident beside the northern motorway in Auckland, where a car ran into the back of a highway patrol vehicle that was conducting a traffic stop.
The occupant of the car is in Auckland hospital with serious injuries.
Two police officers were also hurt; one has a broken leg.
The incident happened just after 11pm on Saturday near the Tristram Ave offramp.
