A student from Avondale College in Auckland has admitted a charge relating to the stabbing of his teacher.

Tae Won Chung, 17, appeared in Auckland District Court about 10:30am on Thursday.

He had earlier admitted stabbing David Warren, 49, but had denied a charge of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to wound.

Mr Chung pleaded guilty on Thursday to a lesser count of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to injure.

He listened intently to the proceedings with the help of a court interpreter during the brief hearing.

Mr Chung has been remanded on bail until his sentencing.

His lawyer asked for some variations to his electronic bail to deal with issues such as restorative justice.
