A man from the United Kingdom has been found dead in central Queenstown.
The body of James Patrick Smith, 25, from Kent, was found in an alleyway about 1.40am on Friday off Shotover Street, near the Base Backpackers and the Altitude Bar.
Acting Detective Sergeant Grant Miller says Mr Smith appears to have fallen 10 meters to his death from a rooftop of a backpacker hostel.
He says there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Smith's death, no-one else was involved, and intoxicaton may have been a factor.
Officers are now trying to contact his family in the UK.
