New air run for mine workers

7:08 am on 6 June 2009

Air New Zealand is to begin a new service between Westport - Christchurch, mainly to cater for employees at the Stockton opencast mine.

The airline says it's been in discussions with Solid Energy for four years about a potential service. A number of Solid Energy employees regularly travel to the mine from Christchurch.

The service will be on Monday and Friday mornings and evenings from 6 July. It will be operated by an Air New Zealand subsidiary, Eagle Air.
