Mysterious illness under control say health chiefs

Health officials in Coromandel are confident that a vomiting and diarrhoea outbreak is under control.

The Thames Hospital started seeing cases of the yet to be diagnosed sickness during the week, and treated five people in its emergency department.

A spokesperson for the Waikato District Health Board, Ashleigh Peek, says there are four people with the illness in hospital, but no new cases were admitted overnight.

She says it's not known what the illness is yet, and test results are due by next Friday.
