Police seek knife used in Christchurch stabbing

7:00 pm on 7 June 2009

Police in Christchurch are asking the public for help in locating the knife used in a stabbing over the weekend.

A 17-year-old man is in Christchurch Hospital in a stable condition after being stabbed in the stomach outside a Tuam Street house, at about 10.30pm on Saturday.

Police say the offender and his friends were ejected from a party just before the stabbing.

They say the group ran off, heading west towards Fitzgerald Avenue, then later turned left into Nursery Road, before crossing over to run through the grounds of the Phillipstown School.

Police have asked people in that area to check the frontages or roofs of their properties for a knife.
