Porirua City Council is investigating a proposal to create a public drinking fountain.

Water would be piped from underground springs in Takapuwahia.

Councillor Liz Kelly says the idea came from a local resident, and since then over 120 people had signed a petition supporting the move.

A feasibility study is being carried out to determine whether the project will go ahead.

Cr Kelly says a similar fountain in Petone is extemely popular.
