A baby who died in Rotorua on Friday has been laid to rest.
The body of Trent James Matthews, also known as Michael Matthews, aged one, was returned to his marae in Kaitaia on Monday night.
Results of a post-mortem were inconclusive and the outcome of further forensic testing is awaited to help establish how he died.
A woman, 29, has been charged with assaulting a child. She is to re-appear in Rotorua District Court on Wednesday.
