11:32 am on 13 June 2009

State Highway 35 on the east coast of the North Island reopened to light traffic on Saturday morning after roading crews cleared a landslip.

The Automobile Association and police say the road at Tikitiki, between Tokumaru Bay and Hicks Bay, was reopened to light vehicles but logging trucks remain barred.

Slips and fallen trees were also reported on other sections of State Highway 35 from Hicks Bay south to Gisborne and on State Highway 2 further south to Wairoa.
