A house in Dannevirke was cordoned off on Thursday evening after a shooting incident.
The police say that at about 6.30pm someone fired a shotgun through a window of the house.
Six adults and a child were inside the house at the time.
One woman received minor injuries and was treated at the scene by ambulance staff.
Police spokesperson Kim Perks says it is possible the incident was gang related.
Ms Perks says the occupants of the house did not hear a vehicle, so the offender may have been on foot.
She says the weapon used may have been a shotgun, but it is not known how many shots were fired.
