Christchurch City Council is to spend $5.3 million to buy houses affected by a noisy motor racing park.
There are about 32 properties around Ruapuna Reserve which is home to the South Island's largest motor racing track.
People living in these houses say the noise has increased to unacceptable levels over the past five years because there are more events held each week.
After considering a report confirming their claims, the council decided on Thursday to purchase of the seven most affected properties.
Councillors also agreed to change the city plan to include new noise limit rules for the area.
