Bottle maker to increase production

Increasing demand from the wine industry has prompted a glass manufacturer to relocate its production to New Zealand.

Some 35 jobs will be created at O-I Glass in Auckland when an extra furnace and two glass container moulding machines are installed and working in 2010.

General manager Brian Slingsby says production will replace imports from Australia and China and allow more recycling of New Zealand glass.

He says it will increase annual output by 90,000 tonnes, bringing daily production to 2.2 million bottles.
