SFO investigating Blue Chip franchise

7:52 am on 23 July 2010

The Serious Fraud Office (SFO) is investigating a Blue Chip franchise that operated in the South Island.

SFO director Adam Feeley says police forwarded information suggesting that documents provided to investors by an employee of the franchise were misleading.

It's also alleged that lending documents may have been altered by that employee to induce financiers into lending funds for property investments.

Mr Feeley says the police had already undertaken a thorough preliminary investigation, and it had been agreed between the two agencies that the SFO is better placed to conclude the inquiry.

He says a decision on the transactions under investigation is expected to be made within the next few weeks.
