Hokianga women killed after car plunges into sea

9:16 pm on 29 June 2009

Police say a crash that killed two Hokianga women when their car plunged into the sea is the second in the same spot in two years.

The women were found dead on Sunday morning in their overturned vehicle in mangroves off West Coast Road.

They were Isobel Solomon Tauhinu, 42, and Joanne Francis Fisher, aged 38. Both were from Kohukohu.

Police say a woman died in a similar crash at the same bend in 2007.

They suspect Sunday's crash happened at high tide and the car was submerged. The women were not wearing seatbelts when found. Police inquiries are continuing.
