Court martial clears army major

An army major with a previous conviction for indecent assault has been cleared of charges of making sexual comments to a colleague's partner.

Allan David Kinsella, 37, was found not guilty on four charges at a court martial held at Trentham Army Base.

The prosecution claimed Major Kinsella made comments of a sexual nature to the woman in the cloakroom of the Waiouru military base, and then warned her not to report it.

The woman had been visiting her partner who was doing a course there.

However, the defence argued Major Kinsella did not follow her into the cloakroom but stood only in the doorway.

His case was that he was actually trying to apologise about an earlier misunderstanding, when there had been a conversation about "playing around".
