There will be an increased police presence at Fairfield College in Hamilton on Thursday, after a fight in which a student was injured and two girls arrested and charged with assault.

Police say two students at Fairfield College, aged 13 and 14, set upon another girl, aged 17, punching her in the face as she tried to enter a room.

They say her boyfriend tried to intervene, which sparked a fight involving a large group of students.

One girl appeared in court on Wednesday, while the other was referred to Youth Aid.
