Te Arawa is celebrating a comprehensive settlement of its land and forestry claims.

Te Pumautanga o te Arawa chair Eru George says a hui at Owhata marae in Rotorua on Thursday will acknowledge all those who have contributed to the settlement.

Waatea News reports assets returned to 11 Te Arawa iwi and hapu include $30 million in commercial redress, $40 million in accumulated forest rentals, four geothermal wells, the land under five Rotorua schools, and other land and lake beds.

Mr George said Te Arawa will take an active role in managing the forest estate alongside the other central North Island iwi.
