9:42 pm on 15 July 2009

Hamilton police are appealing for witnesses to a bank robbery on Wednesday morning.

They say a partly disguised person entered the Frankton branch of the ANZ bank on Commerce Street shortly before 10am.

The person, believed to be a male, threatened a teller and passed over a note demanding money, then left with a small sum of money, heading on foot down Commerce Street.

The robber is described as a male Maori of chubby build, between 175 and 180cm tall, and wearing black gloves, blue jeans, a dark jacket, a scarf and a large beanie.

Police say they are keeping an open mind about the robber's gender, as their clothing was baggy and oversized.
