PSA puts case to super-city select committee

The union for some of the council employees facing uncertainty over the future of their jobs has put their case to the select committee on the Auckland super-city.

The Auckland Governance Select Committee is into its third week of hearings.

The PSA represents about 2600 out of almost 7000 personnel at councils around the region.

National secretary Richard Wagstaff told the select committee on Friday there was only one chance to make the transition to the new combined council, and it needs to be done right.

He says people should be able to do their jobs without worrying about whether they will be on the dole queue next week, and also knowing the services they provide will be continued.

Mr Wagstaff says the Government has not ensured that jobs are safe during the change-over, so the select committee needs to address the issue as soon as possible.
