Police are investigating the death of a man during or shortly after a fight with a family member in Mangere on Saturday night.
Emergency services were called to a property in Mangere shortly before midnight, but he was already dead.
Police say their initial inquiries indicate the man, 44, was involved in an altercation with a male family member.
Detective Senior Sergeant Dave Lynch says the family is cooperating fully with the investigation.
He says a post-mortem examination will determine whether any charges will be laid.
