Legally binding 3am cap wanted on bar customers

Police in Christchurch are pushing for a rule which stops people entering bars after 3am to be made legally binding in all nightclubs and bars in the city.

A minority of Christchurch bar owners have not agreed to a voluntary rule that bans admitting new patrons after 3am on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Police area aommander, Inspector Derek Erasmus, says enforcing the 3am rule is part of his submission to a select committee considering the Sale and Supply of Liquor and Liquor Enforcement Bill.
