Hubbard unlikely to stand for super-city mayoralty

Former mayor of Auckland City Dick Hubbard says he's unlikely to stand for the super-city mayorality, but is not ruling it out.

On Friday, as a Parliamentary select committee concluded three weeks of hearings on submissions about the merging of Auckland's eight councils into one, Local Government Minister Rodney Hide said none of the current mayors should lead the new super-city.

Mr Hubbard says he made a submission to the select committee because he agitated for change when he was the mayor.

But, he said, his appearance was definitely not the launch of an election campaign.
