A 21-year-old man has died after the boat he was a passenger in collided with a tree on the Waikato River near Waiuku.
Ross Irwin and his three friends crashed into the river bank, hitting the tree, at about 9.30pm on Saturday.
Mr Irwin died at the scene from his injuries.
The other passengers sustained moderate injuries.
Police and Maritime New Zealand are investigating and say alcohol and mist may have been factors.
