Wairarapa - Wellington train services to resume

6:55 pm on 26 July 2009

Train services are resuming between Wairarapa and Wellington, after a three-day shut-down caused by a derailment at Maymorn, near Upper Hutt, on Thursday night.

Kiwirail had to build an access road to the remote site in order to shift the locomotive on Sunday afternoon using two large road cranes.

Kiwirail spokesperson Ruth Larsen says there's been minimal track damage, and Sunday's 6.50pm service was expected to be the first to travel the newly cleared route.

She says the affected train is being taken back to Wellington on Sunday night for checks and cleaning, in time for Monday morning services.
