Oamaru District Court has heard details of a high-speed police pursuit that led to an armed offenders squad callout in Palmerston, east Otago, in February.
Christopher Shaw, 25, and Stacey Snelleksz, 20, face numerous charges, including using a firearm against six police officers and wilfully ill-treating two children in their custody - a girl aged three and a boy aged one.
Ms Snelleksz cried as the charges were read to the court.
Sergeant Wayne Brew told the pair's depositions hearing on Monday that he pursued a stolen four-wheel-drive vehicle in Oamaru in a chase that reached speeds of about 150 kilometres an hour.
Mr Brew said that at one stage the male occupant fired a gun out of the car window towards two constables.
The vehicle later crashed and Mr Shaw and Ms Snelleksz were arrested on nearby farmland.
