A man who snatched a child from a Wellington street has pleaded guilty to her kidnapping, along with a number of other charges on Wednesday.

A police summary of facts revealed that the girl which Benjamin Mangirane, 21, snatched off a suburban street in March was not the first child he had approached.

The district court heard that in December last year Mangirane approached a child in the grounds of a Wellington school.

After asking her several questions, he began undoing a pair of shorts he was wearing underneath his trousers and the child fled.

Mangirane also pleaded guilty to charges of performing an indecent act in front of women on the capital's streets.

He has been remanded to a secure unit pending sentencing on 28 August.
