A new silent oral history project is tell the stories of deaf people and their parents.
A group of parents of deaf children in Northland have received a grant of $12,000 for a video oral history project recorded in sign language.
The grant is from the Australian Sesquicentennial Gift Trust, which began in 1990 with a gift from the Australian government.
Sign language became an official New Zealand language in 2006, along with English and te reo.
