The road to Milford Sound on the South Island's west coast remains blocked by an avalanche and will be closed until Wednesday.
Part of State Highway 94 has been is covered by trees and snow drifts of up to five metres as a series of avalanches have fallen over the weekend.
The large falls were trigged as part of the region's annual management programme, which clears the snow fall to prevent spontaneous avalanches that might endanger road users.
The New Zealand Transport Agency says it will next update the road condition on Wednesday afternoon, but until then no vehicles will be able to get in.
Tourism businesses are continuing to operate by helicopter.
