A plan to make one of Auckland's most popular and most dangerous streets a go-slow zone has been approved.
Auckland City Council has approved a plan to reduce the current speed limit from 50 km/h to 40 km/h in a bid to improve safety.
The council says there have been 253 crashes on Ponsonby Rd in the past four years, including 13 that caused injury to pedestrians and two fatalities.
Transport committee deputy chairperson John Lister says more than 80% of residents and business owners surveyed were in favour of the change. The new speed limit will be in place by next month, he says.
