Kindergarten commitment given

3:17 pm on 11 August 2009

The New Zealand Kindergarten Association is making a commitment to recognising Maori educational needs in its curriculum.

Chief executive Clare Wells says kindergartens have the highest percentage of Maori children and whanau enrolled, after Kohanga Reo.

Ms Wells told Waatea News the association has a clear responsibility to ensure its teaching and services reflect that.

She said there are not enough services and resources in areas with a high Maori population.
