Trams considered for Waitemata waterfront

Auckland Regional Council is considering putting a tram system along the Waitemata Harbour waterfront.

The council has begun a feasibility study into a light rail system using heritage trams, which it says will add character to the area.

Cameron Pitches, a spokesperson for lobby group Campaign for Better Transport, says the idea is very practical for tourists and commuters who work in the viaduct area.

Progress on the feasibility study will be reported back to the regional council's Transport and Urban Development Committee in November.
