9:00 pm on 16 August 2009

A pedestrian has been injured as the police tried to stop a stolen vehicle in Christchurch.

Police say they attempted to pull over the driver of the car in the city centre early on Sunday morning.

Police say the driver accelerated when they went to pull him over and lost control, hitting a pedestrian and four parked cars.

The two people in the vehicle took off on foot.

One was caught by the police soon after.

The 23-year-old man will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday.

Police are still looking for the other person.

The pedestrian, a 28-year-old woman, suffered fractures and cuts and is in a stable condition in hospital.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw the accident on Cashel Street, at about 1am on Sunday.
