6:51 am on 19 August 2009

A search for a teenage boy missing in the Wairoa River in northern Hawke's Bay is expected to resume again at first light on Wednesday.

A police spokesperson says the boy, aged 12 or 13, was last seen going into the river to retrieve a ball about 5.30pm on Tuesday, but did not return.

Police, volunteers and a rescue helicopter with night-vision goggles searched until late into the night, but without success.

Police say the search will resume at first light, with help from the police dive squad.
