Hamilton murder accused reappears in court

A Hamilton man accused of murdering another man has again been remanded in custody after reappearing in Hamilton District Court on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old, who has continued name suppression, was charged at the weekend after the death of 18-year-old Edward Ngatai-Emery.

He died in hospital from complications from wounds he received after being stabbed this month.

Another teenager, also stabbed in the altercation between two groups of young people, was treated and discharged from Waikato Hospital.

Mr Ngatai-Emery had also been discharged from hospital but was readmitted late last week and he died after surgery.

The accused has applied to the court for electronic bail, but this has not yet been heard.

At the time of his arrest, police said they hoped it would ease tensions between the two groups of young people in the suburb of Melville.
