Council investigates rubbish collection flyer

4:01 pm on 19 August 2009

Waikato District Council is investigating who is behind a flyer promoting an inorganic rubbish collection in Huntly and claiming it is a council initiative.

Its chief executive, Gavin Ion says the flyer fraudulently uses the council's logo.

Mr Ion says the council isn't endorsing the inorganic rubbish collection and is concerned residents may be mislead into thinking it does.

He says it is possible someone wanting scrap metal has distributed the flyers.

Mr Ion says the concern is that only sought after pieces will be picked up, the rest will just be left lying at the side of the road and the council may have end up having to clean it up.

He says the Waikato District Council's official inorganic rubbish collection is in November.
