A Masterton man has survived a fall of more than 30 metres down a gully in Wairarapa.

The 27-year-old was part of a group spraying pine trees when he slipped and plummeted into the ravine, about 2km east of Tuturumuri, on Monday.

A paramedic was winched down from the Westpac rescue helicopter to lift the man to safety.

He has been taken to Wellington Hospital suffering from a fractured femur and possible head injuries.
