Action delayed on use of methyl bromide

12:52 pm on 25 August 2009

Marlborough District Council has decided to delay any decision on the future use of methyl bromide at the port of Picton.

The council's environment policy committee has decided to await a national review of the toxic fumigant, to be undertaken by the Environmental Risk Management Authority.

ERMA is expected to produce recommendations on methyl bromide use within 12 months.

The district council says it's satisfied no harm will be caused to Picton residents in the meantime from use of the fumigant on timber and log exports.
