No recovery of legal costs expected after occupation ends

A businessman who was locked out of his own building in Kaikohe says he is not expecting to get back any money from a Maori hapu which occupied it.

Glenn Hannah bought the building in April this year in a mortgagee sale.

Members of the group Nga Uri o Tupoto were evicted on Tuesday after four months of protest and court action, claiming sovereignty rights.

Mr Hannah says he does not know how much the legal bills will cost but thinks he will have to write them off.

He says the occupying group has had a fair hearing in court and is happy the dispute is over.
