Police in Christchurch have arrested a 58-year-old man after an armed offenders squad callout.
They were called to a house in the suburb of Dallington after reports of a man discharging a firearm just after 4pm on Sunday.
Police found a large amount of firearms and ammunition at the house, as well as the bodies of two cats which the man had shot.
The man was arrested and will appear in the Christchurch District Court on Monday facing a number of firearms charges.
