Police in the Tasman district have begun shedding vehicles as part of a national drive to rationalise numbers.
In June, the police confirmed plans to reduce their fleet by more than 300 vehicles nationwide - to help cull $2.4 million from the annual budget.
The Tasman district covers 70,000km across Nelson Bays, West Coast and Marlborough.
District commander, Superintendent Gary Knowles, says 10% of the fleet has been trimmed - equating to 14 of about 160 vehicles in total.
He says the age and mileage of its fleet were considered. They were a range of administrative, plain and uniform vehicles - as well as an old prison truck on the West Coast.
